It is with great pleasure that I write this letter for my PhD advisee Md. Nayem Hasan Munna. He has
consistently demonstrated high academic performance, dedication, and commitment to excellence. He is
committed to scientific rigor, intellectual curiosity, and perseverance in the field of soil science and
climate-resilient agriculture.
Munna’s doctoral research on soil physical quality and sustainable land management has addressed some
challenges in ecological restoration and climate-resilient farming. He conducted field experiments and
laboratory analyses and demonstrated a strong capacity to integrate practical fieldwork with robust
scientific inquiry. Beyond his dissertation research, Munna has been actively involved in scholarly
collaboration, co-authoring book chapters, review articles, and original research papers. His GPA of 3.9
out of 4.0 is an indicator of his academic accomplishment, which highlight his scholarly productivity and
potential to generate impactful contributions that extend beyond his doctoral studies.
His dedication to advancing sustainable soil and ecosystem management indicate a bright future ahead.
Indeed, his research will continue to generate knowledge of relevance to ecological restoration and
climate-resilient agriculture. I recommend him for a pertinent opportunity that will foster his continued
academic and professional growth.

I had the privilege of teaching Munna in my graduate-level Soil Fertility course, ENR5270, where he stood out as one of the best students in the class. He earned an outstanding grade of 98.28% (A), which reflects not only his strong grasp of the subject matter but also his consistent effort, focus, and commitment to the subject of soil and environmental science. He was always engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and performed at a very high level on both assignments and exams.
Outside the classroom, I have interacted (and continue to do so) with Munna through seminars and discussions within the CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration. In these settings, he has showed genuine curiosity, professionalism, and the ability to connect soil fertility with larger issues of sustainable agriculture and environmental management. His academic journey, beginning with research on biochar use in saline soils during his Master’s studies (a subject I am very familiar with as having a former MS student working on the same subject) and now focusing on soil physical quality and sustainable land management in his PhD, shows a clear progression and a strong vision as a researcher.
Munna is diligent, respectful, and motivated. He works well with others, communicates clearly, and shows maturity beyond his career stage. I believe he has the qualities needed to make significant contributions to soil science, agriculture, sustainability, and making a positive impact on the natural world in which we live.

While studying at the University of Barishal, Md Nayem Hasan Munna kept his CGPA up with a 3.85. Besides his classwork, he conducted research work at his undergraduate level. Md Nayem Hasan Munna would be a tremendous asset to any Environmental Laboratory and I strongly recommend him to you without reservation. If there are any questions about his qualifications or background, please do not hesitate to contact me for clarification and more information.

I first met Md Nayem Hasan Munna when I joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences, University of Barishal, Bangladesh in March 2015. After joining this department, I have taken two undergraduate courses in their batch. Later on, I switched to the Department of Coastal Studies and Disaster Management at the same University. I rarely come across real talents who stand out like Md Nayem Hasan Munna. He is an exceptional student who always takes challenges in conducting research. He had given an outstanding effort on several research projects of mine.

I am familiar with Md Nayem Hasan Munna for quite a long time. It is tough to find someone at his stage having too much interest in research. But he is an exceptional student who always take challenges for conducting empirical research. By evaluating some of his research, I found he has a good experience in lab analysis using different instruments, social data collection, and analysis through statistical software, and also has good knowledge on the social-technical approach of research. He is good at different research idea generation and formulating methodology in a problem-solving manner. His hard-working attitude and passion for learning make him an ideal candidate for learning from any world renounced university. His future plan is to contribute to Bangladesh’s environmental sector through scientific research which is very needful for the country.
