Md Nayem Hasan Munna
Soil and Environmental Steward | Young Researcher
Md Nayem Hasan Munna is a Ph.D. candidate in Soil Science at The Ohio State University, where he conducts research under the supervision of Professor Rattan Lal. His dissertation defense is scheduled for November 10, 2026, and he expects to graduate in December 2026.
He has authored six peer-reviewed journal articles addressing soil physical quality, carbon and nitrogen sequestration, plant-available water capacity, biochar, saline-soil reclamation, and sustainable agricultural management. His research has been published in leading journals, including Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, Soil Use and Management, Soil Science Society of America Journal, Archives of Agronomy and Soil Science, and Cogent Food & Agriculture. He has also contributed to scholarly book chapters, including an accepted chapter on biochar and the remediation of salt-affected soils.
Munna has delivered invited presentations at the CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration and The Ohio State University’s School of Environment and Natural Resources Seminar Series. His research achievements include first place in the 2026 CFAES Three Minute Thesis Competition, recognition as a university-level Three Minute Thesis finalist, second place in the poster competition at the 2026 CFAES Research Forum, Top 7 Abstract Selection at the Interdisciplinary Water Research Symposium, and Top 10 Abstract Selection at the Zamorano Symposium. He has presented oral, lightning, and poster presentations at scientific conferences and research events in the United States.
He earned his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Soil and Environmental Sciences from the University of Barishal, Bangladesh. He received the National Science and Technology Fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, in 2021–2022, as well as the Dean’s Award for outstanding academic performance in both his M.S. and B.S. programs.
His research interests include soil health, soil physical quality, soil fertility, carbon and nitrogen dynamics, biochar, plant-available water capacity, sustainable land management, water quality, wastewater management, climate-resilient agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

How I can help
I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. at The Ohio State University in the United States. I studied Soil and Environmental Sciences with my MS and BS from the University of Barishal. I have learned to use a lot of software for my academic research purposes. Now, I am helping other Young Enthusiasts to learn the software to make their research journey smoother.
